What is Consciousness anyway?

.....State when mental representations register

 

 

Awareness

Sensation

Perception

Access to thoughts

Responsiveness

Wakefulness

Sense of Self

Attention

Decision Making/Choice

Motivation--pleasure/pain/norms/values/emotion

 

Volition

 

Qualia/Phenomenal Experience

 

Connects sensations to memories to goals to plans to motor activities

Why do we need consciousness?

    Philosophically?

      

    Scientifically?

       What is the evolutionary advantage?

          sense of self?

          is is required for learning? memory? planning? choice?

 

What is Unconscious?

    A ROCK   or Not conscious?  Potentiality

 

Whether you can be conscious of something, depends on being conscious at all.

 

Subconscious (belief perception)

 

There can cognition without consciouness
